New Australian anti-speeding ad tells speeders their small penis is why they speed
June 28th, 2007
Young men who speed do so because they have a small penis - or so the new RTA road safety campaign implies. Ads from the $1.9 million campaign - which targets speeding among 17- to 25-year-olds - aired for the first time on TV last night. They show onlookers who see speeding male drivers wiggling their pinkie fingers.
Police Brutality on 13 yr-olds Including a Girl-For Skateboarding
June 27th, 2007
This group of kids were skateboarding down the street in Arkansas when this cop decided to get all power hungry on them. He chokes out the first kid, chases another, puts a girl and another guy in a headlock, and it’s all caught on video. The info is in the post. I don’t know what happen at the beginning but when a video like this get so much publicity, that police officer is going to have a long talk with his supervisor.

What the iPhone Doesn’t Have
June 27th, 2007

• Games - who really play games on their phone? I think this is actually a smart move than to put 2 lame games in the phone
• Any flash support - This is the biggest concern for a real browser, flash is part of almost every other website, but I am sure this is software updatable.
• Instant Messaging - iChat is gone? I would say is, it won’t have MSN messenger which majority is using, so let it go. Use SMS instead.
• Picture messages (MMS) - I guess this is a vendor restriction more than anything since they don’t want to increase bandwidth usage on their EDGE network
• Video recording - People love to use their phone to record and put footage at youtube, this is a miss
• Direct iTunes Music Store Access (Over Wi-Fi or EDGE) - damn, I thought iPhone is a computer, and you need another computer to buy music for your computer?
• Voice recognition or voice dialing - This is one of the most impact features, no buttons and no voice dial. It means that you can’t call people when you are driving. With a real button, you can feel it and call someone just like “The departed”. Without button, and without voice dial, you are left with nothing but luck.
• Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Streaming - Does it mean people actually want to use the bluetooth headset for music? The white headphone is still cooler!

| Watch out for | Since the 47″ has only 2 channel audio from its optical out, the 52″ might have the same deal. | The 47″ has audio hum, audio sync issues. Don’t know if this will have same issues. | A lot of complaints about banding (video sample) |
Vizio has poor Contrast ratio at 800:1 static while rumors have it being 3200:1 dynamic. At $1.7k, it seems so far off from its competitors. Note that it’s processor is one of the top chips which provides better scaling/deinterlacing than a lot of set on the street.
However, Westinghouse’s proposed price might not be too far off from reality at launch date as it was announced half a year ago and $2500 was a decent price point at that time, not anymore.
Sharp has awesome contrast which its black is comparable to some plasma. Its technology is 1 year old and it doesn’t have 4 hdmi inputs (why do one need 4? 1 for computer, 1 for up convert dvd or hd-dvd or bluray player, 1 for ps3, one for xbox 360, all used up)
A peek at Costco’s system with proof of Vizio 52″ being $1899 before $200 coupon: (Thank you timmyboywonder from avsforum for this image)

- Â With PIP features, it really doesn’t make sense to route your video through your receiver or you are loosing it’s PIP/POP capability.

Whole Foods: The whole truth
June 24th, 2007

Whole Foods, the nation’s popular and fast-growing chain of “healthy” supermarkets, makes you feel good about groceries the moment you enter.
Guts of the article:
1. Food shipped to whole food are not made any environmentally friendlier than other food
2. Whole food still has a lot of junk food
3. Foods found in whole food does not have the lowest calories compared to food bought elsewhere.
4. Not all food According to the nonprofit Environmental Working Group, soft-skinned fruits and veggies, like peaches, apples and bell peppers, retain the most amount of pesticides. So buying organic versions makes sense.
5. Onions, avocados and corn are practically pesticide-free whether they are organically grown or not.
6. They do not provide nutritional information on any of its in-store prepared foods.
7. In its “Whole Body” department, Whole Foods offers a variety of “organic” soaps and health supplements. But there is no recognized “organic” standard in the personal-care industry.
Foodnews.org, the research group’s website, lists conventionally grown fruits and vegetables by pesticide content.
